Charades with Pepper!
Using the alphabet cards for games of charades makes a game of learning vocabulary and sentences!  One student pulls a card to act out for the other students to guess.  To differentiate between beginner learners and advancing learners, the beginners can have the three-page Pepper alphabet sheets in front of them to identify and read the vocabulary that a student is acting out.  Advancing learners have to use memory of vocabulary, no sheets.  Revisit often as a brain break or five-minute session at the beginning or end of class or Friday fun.

Find out more with Pepper and enjoy the celebrations at Cinco de Mayo or Pepper in Puebla

Cinco de Mayo, the fifth of May, celebrates the Battle of Puebla in Mexico when a small Mexican army fought off an attack by a large French army in 1862.  Cinco de Mayo has been celebrated in the U.S. since 1862, first in California by Latinos then by more people in other parts of the U.S.  Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the State of Puebla in Mexico and is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla.

Available in Spanish, French and English.

Mother's Day is on the second Sunday in May in the U.S. and several other countries, followed by Father's Day on the third Sunday in June.  Pepper brings you her combined package of Mother's Day and Father's Day cards to make and booklets with occupations taken on by parental figures.  Learn about the work parental figures do for their children in English, French or Spanish at:

French or Spanish Board Game

Join Pepper for her board game which will have students
hearing and saying Spanish or French words and phrases to each other.
The board, game pieces and cards, and a pocket booklet of phrases, are included in Pepper's
and

 on TeachersPayTeachers.

Below are the objects and rules of the game so you can see how it can be used.
Pepper says "Have fun!"

Welcome to Pepper's board game for learning essential phrases and commonly-used verbs and prepositions!

Object of the Game
To see who has the most cards when they finish the board.  But the primary object is to have students reading, hearing and saying Spanish (or French) words and phrases to each other while the teacher, or substitute teacher, walks the classroom monitoring each group playing the game and helping with pronunciation if necessary and making sure students are playing well together.

How to Play
1.  Stack the piles of Pepper cards in three separate piles according to the picture on the back.  The three piles cover Essential Phrases, Verbs and Prepositions.
2.  Place all players' game pieces off the board just below the first square.
3.  Have the first player roll the die and move as many squares as indicated by the roll of the die.
4.  Have the second player read the top card from the stack that corresponds to the picture the first player lands on.  Decide before the game starts if the players will read the English or Spanish on the cards.  The second player then reads either the English or the Spanish as decided and the first player must provide the corresponding English or Spanish answer.
5.  If the first player gets the answer right, he/she keeps the card and stays on the space landed on.  If not, the card goes to the bottom of the pile and the player moves his/her game piece back one space.
6.  Then it is the second player's turn to roll and move while the next player reads the top card for him/her.
7.  The game finishes when all players have landed on or beyond the final square.
8.  Each player counts his/her cards.  The one with the most cards wins.

Adjustable by age and level of understanding
For about ages 5 to 8
For the youngest players, use only a few cards containing introductory vocabulary that needs to be reinforced.  If desired, print the cards twice so that a word can be asked more than once in the game.  For example, print only the first page of vocabulary of "CardsEssentialPhrases", "CardsVerbs" and/or "CardsPrepositions".  If one or two of the stacks of cards is omitted, those squares on the board can be just places to land with no action.
For about ages 8 to 10
For older players, use all the cards.
For about 9 and up
For advanced players, have them conjugate the verb cards, have them use the preposition cards correctly in a sentence, and have them provide an appropriate response or an opposite phrase (such as 'adiós ' as an opposite of 'hola') to the essential phrases.

Materials needed for each set of two to four players:
One die
Two to four game pieces (either Pepper's pieces or other game pieces)
Pepper's game board
A selection of Pepper's cards (choose which cards to use depending on the level of difficulty required)

Print the board and game pieces one-sided.  The game pieces come in color and in black and white for students to color.  Print the game cards double-sided so the words are on one side and the pictures are on the other.  There are a few blank cards to add your own words.

French and Spanish Phrases

Pepper aims to boost students' confidence in their ability to communicate a meaningful and useful phrase in a foreign language by giving them a booklet that fits in their jean pocket.  Students can study it during the holidays and then review the phrases with their teacher using the PowerPoint presentation or practice worksheet when school resumes.
